Amber ale, also known as amber ale beer or red beer, is actually not a type of beer. Amber indicates the color of this popular beer. But what exactly is amber ale and how does this beer get this beautiful copper amber color? Below we will explain everything about amber ale beer.
What is amber ale?
Amber ale is not a type of beer but it is all about the color. Amber beer comes from Pale ale. In the past, most beers were quite dark in color, but some beers were just a bit paler. The resulting color is amber. Amber was relatively light in color at that time.
How does amber ale beer taste?
Amber beer is characterized by its beautiful copper amber color. During the brewing process, part of the barley is roasted more heavily. Because of this, the sugar in the grain caramelizes. This is how amber beer gets its famous amber color. Next to that, this process also gives this beer a spicy and caramel-like flavor. In addition, the bitterness is a lot lower compared to other types of beers. Amber beer usually contains between 4% and 6% alcohol.
