More and more variations of traditional beer are appearing on the market. Often with different ingredients, brewing processes and all kinds of flavors. Nowadays, different kinds of beers seem endless, so there is always a kind of beer that will float your boat. And yes, even if you are not a beer lover, (which we find pretty hard to believe), below we tell you all about Hard Seltzer a type "beers" that just can't really fit into any other category.
Hard Seltzer
Like many types of beer, Hard Seltzer has come to Europe from all the way across the pond: the USA. In 2019, this typical drink for the hot summer days gained ground, but in 2020 it really took off. And when a drink is likely to become such a phenomenon, we obviously want to be part of it in the Netherlands. So, Hard Seltzer, you are more than welcome to the party!
What is hard seltzer?
Hard Seltzer, spiked seltzer or also called hard sparkling alcohol water, is a type of drink containing carbonated water, alcohol and often fruit flavoring. With a low alcohol percentage you can say it is a ‘easy drinker’. There are numerous different flavor variations available including mango, cucumber, peach and mint. A Hard Seltzer generally contains between 3% and 5% alcohol.
Why is it so popular?
Hard seltzer became popular because it is a low-calorie alternative to traditional beer. On average, there are about 70 calories in a seltzer, whereas beer quickly contains 150 calories or (much) more. A tasty thirst quencher in fruity flavors, without too many calories but with alcohol! In addition to being low in calories, a hard seltzer is also gluten-free and vegan. Quite a few Dutch brewers have now also started working with hard seltzer.
How is hard seltzer made?
Original Hard Seltzer is a brewed drink with mainly sugar cane as the main ingredient. There are also Hard Seltzers available on the market which only consist of alcohol with sparkling water and fruit flavors. Only the real brewed Seltzer is available at Beer Republic! Fruit extract is often used in the brewing process, but with premium Hard Seltzer real fruit (or pulp) is used to brew this outstanding summer drink.
Specialties: beers that do not fit in a specific category
At Beer Republic, in addition to hard seltzer and lesser-known beer types, we also have various beer types that we cannot put into a specific category. We call these types of beers ‘Specialties’. How about beer with whiskey influences? Or BBQ sauce with IPA beer (yes, no joke) and Champagne beer? Cider should also be on this list. We keep adding new and unique beer variations to our selection. This way you can be certain that you will always come across something special!
