Born from a desire of escaping the oil and gas industry, Fierce would become the end result of a chance meeting of co-founders Dave Grant and Dave McHardy during a brewing course in Sunderland. From this newly formed brewing friendship along with continued positive feedback from many of their homebrews they both decided to put all their focus, drive and passion for beer into starting a brewery – and as such Fierce Beer mashed in its first ever commercial brew in May 2016 at its new home in Dyce, Aberdeen.
Five years on since that first commercial brew Fierce Beer have more than established themselves within the craft beer industry resulting in capacity growing rapidly year on year since those homebrew days and are now capable of brewing 800,000 litres of beer a year and at last count currently exporting to 15 countries including Europe and Asia! And with more tanks due in the first half of 2021 we’re going to push these numbers even higher!
With a strong focus on producing great, flavour packed beers ranging from traditional pilsners, juicy hop bombs and fruity sensations right through to luscious barrel aged stouts and tart sours Fierce Beer went on to win ‘Breakthrough Brewery’ at their first awards in 2017 and as of 2021 are the most awarded Scottish brewery for the last 3 years running!
As well on focussing on releasing the best beers we can we’ve also been able to collaborate and release brews with some of the best breweries in the world such as Amundsen, Dugges, Devils Peak, BrewDog, Verdant, Tiny Rebel, North, Thornbridge, Track, BBNO along with many many more!
Within our first five years we have successfully crowdfunded for two very different reasons. The first was to raise £60,000 to allow us to open our own bar in the heart of our hometown Aberdeen and to give something back to our supporters who have stuck with us since day one and helped get us noticed – we ended up raising £121,093 in 8 days..
The second was to allow us to navigate the uncertain landscape of a global pandemic and ensure that we were able to come out the other side with our team still in their jobs and a brewery where we can continue to make incredible beers for all our supporters. Our initial goal was £75k however we ended up stretching that target twice before closing it off at £155,820 after 24hrs…
Both of these campaigns really helped us underpin the meaning of our #fiercefamily and reinforced the reason we keep doing what we do - to make great, flavourful beers that people want to drink!
We’ve also opened bars in two of our favourite cities in the UK – Fierce Bar Edinburgh on Rose Street in the Scottish capital and also our newest bar Fierce Bar Manchester on Thomas Street, Manchester in the Northern Quarter – so if you’re in either of these cities be sure to pop in past and get looked after by our amazing teams. Keep your eyes peeled in the future for more additions to our bar division!
